Tandem sky‑diving means leaping from an aircraft while securely harnessed to a seasoned, certified instructor. You will feel the rush of fre‑fall at 120 mph (≈190 km/h) above the sparkling Caribbean waters and the dramatic Colombian coastline.
Skydiving Cartagena Requires Early Departure
We usually depart at 6 am (times may shift according to the day’s program) from Cartagena (or 5 am from Santa Marta) and drive to our drop‑zone headquarters. The airfield sits 93 km (58 mi) north of Cartagena—a 1½‑hour drive—and 132 km (82 mi) south of Santa Marta, about a 2½‑hour ride.
After arriving at the airfield, a brief is delivered by our veteran instructors, each boasting hundreds of jumps and certifications from Colombia’s national air‑sports federation and the FAI.
Subsequently, you walk to the hangar and board a Cessna 180. Before take‑off, the instructors attach your harness, ensuring you are fully secured. Then the excitement truly begins!
The Cessna is door‑less and seat‑less, so you sit on the floor beside your instructor. As the engine revs, the plane accelerates down the runway, and the wheels lift off.
Soon after, you climb for roughly 20 minutes until you reach 10,000 ft. Below, the Caribbean Ocean and its beaches spread out, while to the north the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta rises— the world’s highest coastal mountain range, with peaks surpassing 5,000 m.
NOW IS WHEN THINGS GET REAL, TIME TO SKYDIVE CARTAGENA!
At this point, the instructor issues the final commands from the technical briefing, and you step out the door. The free‑fall lasts about 45 exhilarating seconds. Afterwards, the instructor deploys the canopy, guiding you on a scenic glide toward the beach. You can even pilot the canopy briefly; the instructor will demonstrate basic turns and maneuvers.
Finally, you touch down on the sand, smiling with an adrenaline‑fueled glow that lingers for hours.
Moreover, every jumper receives a GoPro video to share and cherish this once‑in‑a‑lifetime adventure.
Requirements for tandem skydiving in Cartagena:
- Must be over the age of 18 and under the age of 70. Minors can tandem skydive up to the minimum age of 12 with the signed consent of a parent or legal guardian accompanying the day of the tandem skydive. (No minor will be allowed to tandem skydive if their parent or legal guardian is not present and signed the parent-consent waiver).
- The maximum clothed weight is 110 kgs/240 lbs with a body mass index of 30.0 and under. For each kilo upwards of 90 kilos we charge 5,000 COP per kilo that takes into consideration the extra time and resources to implement.
- A questionnaire must be filled where you will be asked if you have any conditions such as epilepsy fits, severe head injury, recurrent blackouts or giddiness, disease of the brain or nervous system, high blood pressure, heart or lung disease, dislocated shoulder, or other limb(s), recurrent weakness, diabetes, mental illness, drug or alcohol addiction, or any past or present medical conditions.
- Scuba-diving in the past 24 hours is restricted.
- You can not be under the influence of drugs and alcohol and these can not be present in your system for the past 24 hours. Any person that shows up under the effects of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to tandem skydive and will not be refunded.
- Furthermore, if you are pregnant you should not go skydiving in Cartagena.
