Best Adventure Tours in Colombia

Guanabana Tours is a Medellín-based adventure tour company, founded by locals in 2015. We design private, multi-activity adventure days for English-speaking international travelers: several experiences combined into one all-inclusive trip, run for your group only.

We were the first to build tours this way in Colombia, and plenty of operators have copied the format since. We’re registered with Colombia’s Ministry of Tourism (RNT 47842), with a decade of 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor and Google behind us. Watch the 50-second video below for a feel of how a Guanabana day runs.

  • Private tours only. Never buses or mixed groups, just your party, in a private vehicle.
  • English-speaking guides and drivers.
  • Every affiliate vetted and fully licensed.
  • Traditional Colombian meals on multi-activity days.
  • Multi-city and outback trips are all-inclusive.
  • Risk insurance included.

Visit a village in the marshes with no land in sight

CARTAGENA/SANTA MARTA. Nueva Venecia is a village built entirely on stilts in the Ciénaga Grande marshes. It feels like something out of García Márquez — except it’s real, and we’ll take you across the water to see it. Watch the 1:45 video below.

’m a professional videographer and have filmed in over thirty countries across four continents. Colombia was a first for me, and I went in with no idea what to expect logistically. What I found was the most organized ground operation I have ever worked with on a foreign shoot. Our production covered ten shooting days across four completely different locations: Bogotá, Medellín, the island of Santa Cruz del Islote in the Caribbean, and Cartagena. Every day was a different setup, a different environment, different people, different logistics. Bogotá for a breakfast segment, then a full day at Plaza Minorista market, street food across Medellín on a Sunday Ciclovía, a quiz segment filmed partially in a private home, then a nine-hour drive to the coast, a boat to a tiny island in the middle of the sea with no roads and no cars, overnight accommodation in very basic conditions, back to the mainland, and finally Cartagena for an interview and location shoot on the last day. Every single segment was executed. Not one was missed. In a shoot of this complexity, across this many days and locations, that does not happen by accident. Guanabana handled all ground transportation for the entire ten days, all location scouting done weeks in advance, all casting of local on-camera hosts, all security coordination for the mainland filming days, all logistics for the island including the boat transfers, and all communication with every local contact involved. Nothing fell through the cracks. I have worked with fixers and local production coordinators in Thailand, Greece, Taiwan, and across South America. The level of preparation and real-time problem solving I encountered in Colombia was unlike anything I have experienced. So considering the variety and length of the shooting areas our guide was one of a kind, perfect mix of support, spreading good vibes and even in tighter situations a reliable support. Honestly, it was more German than most German productions I have been part of, and I mean that as the highest compliment I can give. If your production is coming to Colombia, there is no second option worth considering.

Everything about this company is exceptional! The driver was so wonderful and knowledgeable, the guides patient and friendly, and the staff did a wonderful job communicating with me every step of the way. Unlike other tour companies, we were not charged extra for the driver or even for the videos of the day. I highly recommend them for all your tours. We wished we had used them for all of ours!

My wife and I did the canyoning with this company and had such an amazing time. Our guides were super knowledgeable of the area, and very helpful showing us how to navigate the river. We felt very safe, and can’t recommend them enough. We also had a driver that took us on a private tour of guatape, and told us all about the history of the region. He was very funny, and also super helpful. Will be back soon!

Our family had an absolutely incredible day zip-lining and tackling the Via Ferrata with Guanabana Tours! It was a thrilling, and stunningly beautiful adventure from start to finish. The experience started perfectly when our amazing driver picked us up in our small town right on time. He was interesting, highly informative, and even took us to a fantastic breakfast spot before driving us up the mountain. We felt completely safe and comfortable leaving our luggage in his car for the day, which was a huge relief. He stayed with us to ensure we knew exactly what we were doing and where we were going, even helping with Spanish-to-English translations. When you’re trying new things on a family vacation, feeling safe and secure is everything. This tour was run professionally, and the scenery was Instagram-worthy at every turn. It was a rare chance for our family to try something completely new, and we all agreed it was a highlight of our trip. We highly recommend this experience and Guanabana Tours to anyone looking for a safe, professional, and breathtaking adventure!

FANTASTIC!! Juan Diego For President!! Booking from the states, we were worried who to choose but Guanabana Tours was responsive and very helpful. They picked us up from our hotel over an hour from the destination (zip lining) and was exactly on time. Our guide (Juan Diego) was fantastic. He spoke fluent Spanish and English, educating me and my Colombian wife about the area during our drive. He asked if we needed to make any stops and was with us the entire excursion, making sure everything went smoothly. The location was deep in the mountains and BEAUTIFUL! I've zip lined in Florida and this was an amazing experience... mountain to mountain through the clouds with views of waterfalls beneath us. Afterwards we hiked to the waterfall and made the climb. The first 3 steps were scary and after that it was just amazing!! Food was fantastic after. I did have an accident (no fault of anyone) and got a cut on my head.. when we finished the trail Juan Diego said he had already made an appointment at an urgent care. He drove us, walked us throught he process and waited for me to be treated then drove us back to the hotel. 4 stitches and a hospital visit really added to the experience lol! Everything was covered under their insurance. It was the best way to spend our last day in Colombia!! Note on Zip lining: Being from Florida the altitude was a small challenge but the guides walked at our pace and I think it was to give us time to catch our breath lol. Note on hike to waterfall: It's ALL walking down steps. I don't spend any time on the stair master so legs were a little shaky by the end. But also... I saw children as young as 5 walking so... Note on climbing the waterfall: I lift weights.. my wife doesn't. We both made it. Her back was a little sore the day after...like climbing a ladder more than you're used to. If you can't comfortably climb a ladder up and down several times, this part may not be for you.

My friend and I did an excellent two-day tour in and around Guatapé. We climbed the monolith, toured the city, rode ATVs in the countryside, paraglided, and whitewater rafted. Our guide, Ulrich, was excellent; he spoke great English, knew the area very well, and had even been a paragliding instructor in the past. I highly recommend Guanabana Tours, Ulrich, and the vendors they used on land, water, and air.

We had the tour to Punta Gallinas organized by Guanabana tours. The team was responsive and well organized. They were keeping us informed on what we have to do/meeting points, etc. The tour itself is an interesting experience. We had a capable driver to drive us through the desert. We were expecting that in the destination we would have met locals and got a more inclusive experience. Instead it was more of visiting some landmarks on our own (where the driver brought us). Driver was good and polite, quite dependent to other drivers though (perhaps for safety purposes I assume) which reduced a bit the flexibility of our private tour. Accommodation in Cabo de la Vela was very nice, the one in Punta Gallinas good. Food tasty overall. All in all, an experience recommended.
