We fly our paragliding Medellín tours from the mountains around Cocorná, in eastern Antioquia, about 1h 20min from Medellín. It’s the same region where our ATV, canyoning, and rafting tours operate — which is why our paragliding works so well as a bundled full-day adventure.
We don’t offer paragliding as a standalone tour. Every paragliding day with Guanabana is combined with another activity — Guatapé, ATV, canyoning, or white water rafting — all in the same region, on the same day.
The Team Behind Guanabana
Guanabana was founded in 2015 by two Colombian paragliding champions. One is a former #1-ranked national pilot and Colombian national team leader who competed internationally representing Colombia. The other is a three-time national paragliding champion. Both started flying in 1994 and retired from competition to launch Guanabana in 2015.
Most Medellín tour operators offering paragliding are general-purpose tour companies who subcontract flights to whichever pilot is available that day. Guanabana is different — paragliding is in the DNA of the business. Our standards for pilot selection, equipment, flight conditions, and weather cutoffs reflect decades of competition-level experience. No other Medellín tour operator can say this.
How the Flight Works
All flights are tandem with a certified pilot. No experience is required, and there’s no age restriction. Before takeoff, your pilot walks you through four simple things:
- How to sit comfortably in the harness once airborne
- Takeoff — a few running steps forward on command, and you’re flying
- How to hold the GoPro for the best shots and angles
- Landing — just feet up, you’ll land softly
The flight itself lasts about 15 minutes from takeoff to landing. You soar on rising thermal currents over the mountains, canyons, and waterfalls of eastern Antioquia — the same way eagles and condors do.
The GoPro Video Guarantee
Every flight is filmed with a GoPro mounted for optimal angles. After each flight and before we leave the area, we check the micro SD card to confirm the video recorded correctly. If for any technical reason your video didn’t come out, we take you up again for a short flight to get it right — free of charge.
No other paragliding operator in Cocorná or Medellín offers this. Your video is the thing you’ll show friends and family for years. We treat it that way.
Weather Policy
Paragliding depends on wind conditions that don’t always cooperate. If weather makes it unsafe to fly on your scheduled day, we issue a full refund. We don’t push flights in marginal conditions — that’s one of the standards our founding pilots established from day one.

Who Can Fly
- Weight limit: 105 kg / 230 lbs maximum. This is a strict safety requirement — no exceptions.
- Age: no age restrictions. Children fly tandem with certified pilots.
- Footwear: closed sporty shoes required. No high heels or flip-flops. This is a dealbreaker.
- Clothing: a light sweater, jacket, or windbreaker is recommended. It’s cooler at altitude.
- Also bring: sunscreen and bug spray.
About Our Pricing
Cocorná paragliding tours exist at lower prices through hostels, aggregator sites, and high-volume local operators. Those are good options for certain travelers.
Guanabana is a different kind of operator — smaller, more selective, built around decades of competition-level paragliding experience, private tours only with English-speaking drivers and end-to-end culturally attuned corporate communications in native English.
