Where is Lake Calima and How Do I Get there?

Lake Calima is next to a small country town called El Darién, pop. 18,500, elevation 1,521 metres (4,990 feet) asl. Median temperature is 18º C/65º F.

To get to Calima, you must first fly into the Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport of the city of Cali, the capital of the state of Valle del Cauca. Once you arrive, we will pick you up and transfer you to the lake.

Afterward, we will set you up at your lodgings, and depending on the time of your arrival, we can either head straight to the spot for a session or, if it’s too late or too early for kitesurfing, explore the bucolic town of El Darién.

Learning to kitesurf in Lake Calima, how much will I learn during the 7 day/6 night (2 days for transfers, 10 hour of lessons) kite camp?

Of course, there is no one answer for everyone. Each person learns at their own pace: some pick up kitesurfing very quickly, while others may take more time.

At Kite Camp Calima, the goal is for you to become familiar with all the equipment. First, you’ll learn kite control. Then, you’ll start by gaining confidence doing a ‘body drag’—controlling and maneuvering the kite while letting it pull you through the water on your belly, without the board. After that, you’ll begin with your first ‘water starts,’ getting up on your board and using the kite for power.

Throughout the camp, while you’re on the ground, your instructors will teach you essential theoretical aspects of kitesurfing, such as understanding wind, weather, traffic rules, and more.

Finally, all necessary equipment is provided, including a wetsuit. However, if you have your own wetsuit, we recommend bringing it along.

Cost per person USD $1,900
